Maarta in a wijld interview …

Maarta in a wijld interview …

"Actually I wanted to study fashion design, but I didn't get a place at university. So I became an interpreter and 10 years later a relaxation pedagogue, life counseling psychologist and coach", tells us the artist behind Maarta. A few years ago she revived drawing, when it was balm for her soul in a restless time. Since then art has become part of her again we are very happy about that!

wijld:
What should we know about you?
Maarta:
Maybe that you can't rely on me when it comes to the style of my drawings. I am too free-spirited and I have sometimes too many ideas, which I would like to realize all. Some I pursue further, or develop something new out of it, some end up in the trash, some I put out of it again and keep them in the end. The world is colorful and my artworks are not always black and white.

wijld:
Is there a particular place in the world that inspires you or has inspired you once?
Maarta:
Actually, every place I've visited has inspired me in its own way. Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, the beach in the Netherlands, Lake Como, Lake Mondsee, as well as the forest around the corner, the small stream in front of the door, the fields in the neighbourhood. It is the mood that inspires me and it has something to do with my own inner life and less with the actual environment. In any case, it is nature that attracts me and sometimes simply overwhelms me with its beauty. In it I find peace and a feeling of connection.

wijld:
What kind of art appeals to you and why?
Maarta:
On the one hand, I am interested in art that follows the lesson of aesthetics, and on the other hand in art by an imaginative artist. For examle Fresco by Michelangelo and Raffael, paintings of classicism, representations of women in Art Nouveau as painted by Mucha. But also drawings by Escher, like the surreal ideas of Magritte and portraits according to Pop Art by Lichtenstein and Warhol. Banksy is one of my absolute favorites of contemporary art.

wijld:
Dog or cat?
Maarta:
Definitely dog. I grew up with dogs and have lived with dogs since I was 5 years old. I love them! But I also like cats and horses and cows and chickens and donkeys and pigs and ... but dogs belong to me!

wijld:
You are working with wijld because...
Maarta:
... I really like the idea of making wooden t-shirts and the imaginative ideas of the artists who inspire me.
