Sommige verhalen beginnen in het bos. Stil, geurig, groen. En als je diep genoeg naar binnen voelt, kun je ze misschien horen – de vredige rust en verbondenheid. Precies met die harmonie willen we unieke lievelingsstukken maken die een ziel hebben.
Want bij wijld begint alles met een keuze: hout – een oeroude, levende grondstof. Een wonder van de natuur dat ademt, groeit en blijft bestaan – wanneer je er respectvol mee omgaat. Zoals duurzame bosbouw dat mogelijk maakt: met oog voor het geheel, niet voor het afzonderlijke. Het bos blijft intact en zijn diversiteit behouden.
De weg naar de vezel – het fundament van onze kleding
Om daaruit een stof te maken die als magie op de huid aanvoelt, is een reis nodig die langer en geheimzinniger is dan velen denken.
We beginnen bij de vezel – en weloverwogen. Want houtvezel is niet hetzelfde als houtvezel. Elke soort heeft haar eigen sterke punten: de ene is buitengewoon zacht, de andere bijzonder robuust. Welke vezel het meest geschikt is voor welk doel, ontdekken we door uitgebreide tests, analyses van onze experts en de ervaring uit vele eerdere ontwikkelingen.
Van boom tot garen – hightech ontmoet natuur
In de tweede stap ontstaat het garen. Maar ook hier geldt: garen is niet hetzelfde als garen. Spintechnieken zoals ringgaren, compactgaren of airjetgaren hebben elk hun eigen eigenschappen.
Bij wijld zetten we per product precies het garen in dat de beste prestaties levert – want juist bij gemengde stoffen bepaalt de perfecte samenstelling de kwaliteit, het comfort en de levensduur.
For this, we often use so-called “blends”: wood fibers combined with certified organic cotton. This creates fluid, pleasantly soft fabrics that are also easy to care for, hard-wearing and durable.
Knitting & weaving—where fabric truly comes to life
Yarn alone does not make a fabric. Only through knitting or weaving does the material come into being—and this process is more complex than you might think.
Whether fine jersey for our WoodShirts®, sturdy sweatshirt fabric for hoodies or stretchy blends for leggings: each type of fabric requires different stitch densities, tensions and finishing processes.
We develop our fabrics together with partners who are willing to explore new paths with us—even if that means tinkering, testing and starting over for months. Because fabrics often emerge that have never existed in exactly this form before.
Every variant is meticulously checked:

Only when everything works together perfectly do we move on.
The finishing touch—the final refinement
Finally, the fabric is finished—a crucial step that goes far beyond simply dyeing it. We emphasize its natural softness, preserve its breathability, minimize pilling and support its odor-inhibiting properties.
This is where it’s decided whether a shirt is simply “okay”—or becomes a true wijld favorite.
Good things take… patience
All of this takes time. Six months? Often more. Sometimes the result comes back with the note: “Not good enough yet.” Then we start again—with a little more experience and the firm determination to make it even better.
