If you're wondering how wood becomes a T-shirt, you've come to the right place. Most people often have trouble imagining that it's possible to make clothes out of wood. And if they do, they imagine hard or super-scratchy clothes.
So we want to reveal this secret now and take you on a journey behind the scenes. We'll show you how and where this environmentally friendly and at the same time surprisingly soft fabric with this unique wearing comfort is made.
If you take a closer look at the clothing industry of recent years, you will notice that two raw materials form the basis of today's textile production: polyester and cotton.
More than half of all fibers used for clothing worldwide (over 60%) are made from synthetic, i.e. petroleum-based raw materials. Around 25% of the fibers are made from cotton, with organic cotton only accounting for around 1% of this. The remaining 15% of the fibers are made from wool, as well as cellulose-based fibers and other natural fibers such as hemp or linen.
In the first step, the wood is processed into small pieces and mixed with an organic solvent to dissolve the cellulose. This solvent can be recycled again and again due to its good water mixing properties.
After this first step, you now have a honey-like mass that is then pressed through spinning glands to produce fine fibers. The fibers are then dried and finally processed into the yarn that is knitted into the fabric of your T-shirt.
What we particularly like about this production step is that the entire process is a closed loop, which greatly reduces the consumption of resources and also emissions.

Once the material is finished, it goes through various small factories where it is then further processed with a lot of manual work and attention to detail.
Cutting the fabric, the next step in the production chain, requires templates that have been created based on our cutting specifications and are now printed out and placed on the fabric as optimally as possible so that waste is kept to a minimum.
In a small family-run factory, the stencils are glued to around 60 layers of fabric and then cut out accurately (!) by hand (!). This step really requires a lot of experience and is done by two sisters who make it look so easy that you just have to be amazed. They are specialists in their field and it is fun to see how much joy they still have in their work even after so many years.
They also give their all in terms of hospitality: we are always invited to enjoy excellent port wine on site, where there is always the danger of staying far too long...
