TIMELESS AND MINIMALIST FASHION SINCE 2015
Since 2015, we have been on the wrong track with the desire to produce timeless and minimalist fashion in the most ecological way possible. To do this, we use wood, an extremely sustainable raw material that is also super comfortable, even if it may sound completely different at first.
HOW SUSTAINABLE FASHION GOT ON THE WORST TRACK
The story of environmentally friendly fashion made of wood began when Timo visited an international toy fair in early 2015 and was literally swallowed up by a colorful plastic world.
Toys, a salesperson explained to him, have to be colorful and cheap. "The kids usually only play with them for a short time anyway, and most toys are quickly thrown away anyway." A little perplexed by the statements about how toy manufacturers imagine modern children's rooms, Timo looked more closely at the life expectancy of products and their short lifespan. The goal had to be economical and, above all, conscious use of resources and the products made from them. When looking for sustainable materials, he stumbled upon the fact that it is possible to extract fibers for textiles from wood and was excited - wijld was basically born."
Today, the wijld team has over 10 employees and the collections not only consist of WoodShirts, but now also include socks, hoodies, underwear, sports shirts, jogging pants and much more.
WHAT MOTIVATES US TO PRODUCE ECOLOGICAL CLOTHING
In fact, there are many reasons that motivate us to get up in the morning and put our energy into our favorite woody pieces.
We love nature and when you consider that with just one T-shirt we save around 1,000 liters of water, 150 ml of chemicals and 75% CO2 compared to a conventional cotton T-shirt, that alone is really motivating.
By manufacturing our products north of Porto in Portugal, we can ensure that our wooden clothing is manufactured fairly. After all, we care not only about nature, but also about the people who make each piece with a lot of energy and attention to detail. At the same time, by manufacturing in the EU, we can significantly reduce transport routes and therefore emissions compared to production on the other side of the world.
We want to make a difference together with you and try to show as transparently as possible how our fashion is made from wood. With these behind-the-scenes insights, we want to create an understanding of the many and complex work steps. After all, we don't want to sell anonymous fashion, but rather create favorite pieces that people will enjoy for a long time.
