The all-in-one solution. In vegan form.

Die eierlegende Wollmilchsau. In vegan.

On trying to make the impossible possible, and why our clothing sometimes takes longer to arrive.

01 · A goal that drives us

We’ll admit it: Maybe we’re chasing a utopia. A vegan jack-of-all-trades. More specifically: clothing made from a renewable raw material that feels great to wear, is environmentally friendly, and ideally lasts forever without wearing out.

We know this perfect version will never exist. Or…?! That very goal drives us, because it’s based on a simple belief: What lasts a long time is ultimately the most sustainable and fairest thing we can make. A favorite you wear for years beats any garment that gets replaced after one season. For you and for the environment.

Our first product, which we finally held in our hands on December 3, 2016, was our WoodShirt. It’s come a long way with us since then. Is it perfect? No. We’re still working on it. That’s exactly the point: we don’t consider any product “finished.”

02 · Our journey with wood
2016

On December 3, we held our first WoodShirt in our hands.

150 → 200

grams per square meter, for greater durability and shape retention.

A small step on paper, a big impact in everyday life. Since then, we’ve continued to improve our underwear too: its fit, fabric, and construction.

03 · The details

A T-shirt looks simple from the outside. But fabric made from wood fiber is much more demanding to process than conventional cotton. A single piece of fabric involves countless variables. Each one determines whether a garment delivers on its promise:

01 The yarn

Which fiber, which blend, and how is it spun? This is where the foundations for durability and comfort are laid.

02 Manufacturing

How the yarn is turned into woven or knitted fabric determines its structure, shape retention, and how it performs in everyday life.

03 Finishing

The final step, where the fabric’s properties are developed: from its feel to its durability.

Change something in one place, and it affects everything else. A fabric must still impress after its thirtieth wash.

04 · The ultimate challenge

Sweaters, hoodies, joggers.

And this is where things get really challenging. Sweat fabrics are in a completely different league from T-shirt fabrics: thicker, heavier, they have to hold their shape and mustn’t lose it. Even so, they should retain the wood content we stand for. Getting this combination right has challenged us more than anything else in recent years.

We’ve developed, tested, and rejected many variations. And honestly, by now we know pretty well how not to do it. None of these paths was a wasted step; each showed us what really matters. Today, this experience is our greatest asset. It means we’ll soon be presenting our best favorite pieces for the cooler season.

05 · A step forward

New partners who share our commitment.

We’re currently evaluating new production partners who share our commitment to fair production and material quality. We’ll only work with those who truly meet all our requirements. With each new partner, we fine-tune everything again: samples, tests, improvements, until the result is right.

We’re deliberately taking this time. We could have brought something to market a long time ago, but we don’t want to until we’re 100% satisfied.

“We’d rather test twice than offer you something that wears out after one season.”
Timo Beelow, founder of wijld
06 · The outlook

What you can look forward to.

A lot is happening, even if things sometimes seem quiet from the outside. In the coming weeks and months, there’ll be new sock designs, new long sleeves, and the sweat collection, which we’re currently working on with exactly this commitment.

We’re deliberately not giving a specific date. We’ll just say: It’ll be good when it comes. Thank you for your support and for thinking wood with us.
