For eight years, wijld has been committed to innovative, eco-friendly clothing made from wood. But now we’re opening a new chapter: our mission to create sustainable fashion is entering its next phase—with recycled materials. In our latest knitwear collection, we are using recycled wool and recycled cotton for the first time.
Shaping the future through fashion
Unfortunately, the fashion industry is not known for conserving resources or reducing waste. More than 80 billion new garments are produced every year, most of which are unfortunately discarded far too quickly. That’s exactly why we are committed to more conscious consumption and have been using wood as a raw material since 2015—helping us save 75% of CO2 emissions compared with cotton.
Why recycled materials?
By using recycled materials, we continue to help conserve resources. Old textiles and fabric scraps that would otherwise end up in the trash are given a second life with us. In an elaborate recycling process, we transform them into high-quality sweaters that will keep you warm throughout the winter.
We have already developed a fabric for our SportShirts that incorporates recycled materials. On the inside, we use recycled polyester, whose closed fibers help keep you dry during exercise and prevent you from getting cold. The wood-based fiber on the outside wicks moisture away from your body and releases it again. Thanks to this combination, the sports shirt not only performs perfectly but is also manufactured in a highly resource-efficient way.
New paths: Recycled wool and organic cotton
We are now using fibers exclusively without combining them with wood for the first time. Why? We wanted to explore new paths and see how we could create sustainable favorite pieces in alternative ways. The result: together with our partners, we developed knitwear made from recycled wool and recycled organic cotton that reflects our values.
Experience recycling up close
For men, we have designed cozy, warm sweaters in three colors, available with either a crew neck or Troyer collar, made from 100% recycled wool.
For women, we offer beautiful sweaters with a crew neck or V-neck, made from 50% recycled cotton and 50% organic cotton. These styles are also available in three irresistible colors.
Why not 100% recycled cotton?
And if you’re wondering at this point why we don’t use 100% recycled cotton, here’s the explanation. Unlike wool, cotton fibers become too short during the recycling process. Short fibers make the material less durable and cause pilling to develop more quickly. To prevent this and ensure good quality, new material is blended into fibers such as cotton and cellulose-based fibers, significantly extending their lifespan. After all, it’s not only us who are happy when our favorite pieces last a long time—Mother Nature is too.
