Sustainable sweaters and hoodies for women – made from wood

Wood? Doesn't that scratch? That must be incredibly hard and uncomfortable, right? Quite the opposite! Our sustainable sweatshirts and hoodies for women are extremely comfortable and incredibly cozy. They are made from wood- derived fibers and organic cotton and are manufactured fairly and sustainably in Portugal.

The combination of wood and organic cotton makes the fabric particularly smooth and supple, which is why our hoodies and sweaters for women are so pleasantly soft.

Women's sweater made of wood – how sustainable is it really?

For our women's sweaters, we use wood, a raw material that is also native to our region. First, the cellulose is extracted from the wood and then processed into fibers using an organic solvent, which are later spun into yarn. Compared to cotton production, the production of lyocell fibers reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 75%.

The production of cotton garments consumes an enormous amount of water. If you compare that to the production of, say, a women's hoodie made of wood fiber, you save up to 4,000 liters of water per sweater !

We create sustainable fashion because it's important to us to be conscious of nature and our planet. The responsible use of resources was one of the most important reasons for creating wijld. For us, this means not only handling raw materials responsibly, but also ensuring that the people involved in the production of our sustainable sweaters and hoodies work under fair working conditions. We chose to locate our production in Portugal because of the proximity of the individual production steps and the reasonable working conditions.
