With every order on wijld.com we protect a piece of forest.
In 2022, we purchased our very own piece of forest in Sauerland with a heartfelt goal: to restore an area damaged by climate change and transform it into a thriving, ecologically valuable habitat.
PLANT TREES & PROTECT FORESTS
Climate change has a firm grip on us all, and our native forests in Germany are suffering. That’s why we decided to take matters into our own hands and launch a project to support our woodlands.
In 2021, we began searching for a damaged forest area we could help restore.
After countless conversations, outreach efforts, and a long search—success! We found it: our future wijld forest. Located in Sauerland near Marsberg, the site covers more than 81,000 m² of land. Today, it’s still a sparse landscape—but full of potential, waiting to be planted and brought back to life.
PLANT A PIECE OF FOREST WITH EVERY ORDER ON WIJLD.COM
This project is close to our hearts—and it only works with you by our side.
With every order placed on wijld.com, you help protect and restore a piece of forest land.
Specifically: 0.6 m² per order will be reforested and cared for as we work toward building a thriving, resilient forest.
Creating a healthy ecosystem isn’t easy—it takes careful planning, time, and patience.
Our reforestation site spans 8.1 hectares, and we currently estimate planting around 10,500 trees.
Depending on the mix of tall and smaller tree species needed for a strong, biodiverse forest, this number may vary slightly. Before any tree is planted, we analyze which main and supporting species are best suited to the location—focusing on what will offer maximum long-term benefit to nature and the environment.
Once fully grown, our forest will be able to absorb up to 81 tonnes of CO₂ each year. That vision fills us with hope—and keeps us motivated to keep planting.
100,000 TREES FOR MEXICO
We believe that everyone should have the chance to actively participate and witness the progress of our reforestation efforts. That’s why we’re inviting anyone interested from curious individuals to school classes and forestry students to follow “Waldemar” as he grows and to help shape our project together.
Our forest in Sauerland is just the beginning. Our long-term goal is to rescue as many forest areas as possible that have been damaged by climate change and environmental destruction. To accelerate our mission, we came up with a simple but powerful idea: forest sponsorships.
Together with you, we aim not only to protect the initial 8.1 hectares, but also to acquire and restore more areas as quickly as we can.
Because one thing is clear: we can achieve so much more together.
WHY A HEALTHY FOREST IS SO IMPORTANT
Did you know that the term "sustainability" comes from forestry? Due to an increasing regional shortage of wood, actual forestry emerged in the early 18th century and replaced the uncontrolled exploitation of forests that had prevailed until then. The basic idea of sustainable forestry can be summarized as follows: only as much wood should be used as can grow back naturally. Sustainable forestry also ensures that newly planted trees are not monocultures, which are more susceptible to pests on the one hand and damage soils and deprive animals of their habitat on the other.
But how can you plant trees on the one hand and use wood for clothing, for example, on the other? What may not seem to fit together at first makes even more sense once you know the background:
Processing trees is right and important. At their best, a tree produces oxygen, provides a habitat and binds CO². With trees from sustainable forestry, the main aim is to make optimal use of the CO² bound in them, which is why they are felled again (only after many years). If this did not happen, many of them would die due to a lack of light or fungal infestation, among other things, and would rot and release the bound carbon back into the air. The felled trees therefore form a long-term CO² store and are also perfectly suited to be used as an environmentally friendly material in a wide variety of areas.
